Chilly breeze, shorter days, naked trees, ahh...winter is coming. This season tends to force us to stay home more. If you want to get excited to spend more time in your home, here are 5 tips that will turn your home into a winter retreat.

Color me snow. White is almost always associated with winter. But it isn't the only winter color. Choose a color scheme that matches your personality. For the monochromatic lover, shades of white and grey are perfect. If you prefer the boho look, neutral colors like warm browns are great and if you want color, shades of light blue all tie in nicely for a winter wonderland feel.

Add metallics. Make your home shine. Warm tones paired with metallics are a perfect match. Winter snow has that special sparkle and bringing in metallics will create that perfect imitation.

Cover and cozy up. Cable knit and faux fur throw blankets and puffy pillows are an all time must for the winter. Temperatures drop therefore its only natural to cover up with soft textures. Make sure to keep your fuzzy blankets and pillows on your couch and bed to your ultimate coziness.

A touch of nature. Add natural elements such as tree branches, pine cones and leaves to decorate your room. Simply put them in a vase or place them in a tray. They create a perfect winter centerpiece and the best part is you can find these items in your backyard!

Light them up. Fireplaces are always associated with winters, but some of us aren't fortunate enough to get all cozy by the fireplace. It's okay!  Just add some candles! Placing candles all together mimic a fireplace and bring a warm romantic feel to the room.
