Hello Beautiful Souls! It is the first day of Ramadan. For those who may not know, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk for 30 days (the Blessed lunar month of Ramadan). This spiritual journey where we pause from our worldly desires and take time to reflect within ourselves and build our connection with our Creator.

MIND

Fasting during Ramadan boosts your mental health

A study carried out by scientists in the US found that the mental focus achieved by fasting during Ramadan increases the level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which causes the body to produce more brain cells, thus improving brain function. Likewise, a distinct reduction in the amount of the hormone cortisol, produced by the adrenal gland, means that stress levels are greatly reduced both during and after Ramadan.

For 30 days, I like to keep my mind focused on things that benefit me. I avoid watching TV/ listening to music and replace it with educational content.

The beauty of having 30 days to work on yourself is that it takes 30 days to build a habit.

I like to take this time to think of the things I am grateful for. BODY

As you probably heard modern science has been really into intermediate fasting. The benefits of fasting are endless. Many celebrities also do intermediate fasting like Dwayne Johnson. By not eating or drinking your body will detox your digestive system. The body will start to eating into fat reserves to create energy. It will also burn away any harmful toxins that might be present in fat deposits. This body cleanse will leave a healthy blank slate behind and is the perfect stepping stone to a consistently healthy lifestyle. *

Fasting has also been a great way to clear acne.

By restricting the intake to just water, the body gets an opportunity to flush out toxins and harmful substances. Blood circulation in the body also improves resulting in efficient oxygen supply to the cells all over the body. Skin health also improves and many conditions like acne, pimples, scars and dry skin can be cured by water fasting. *

I am excited to document my health journey this Ramadan. I know my body needs this detox.

WORKING OUT WHILE FASTING.

I like to take it slow during this month. The workouts I do are my usual but low intensity. As most of you know I work out in the mornings. I still continue this, with 10 minutes Yoga/Meditation and then I will do a Body Toning workout for only 5-10 minutes followed by a short morning walk. Since my body is already detoxing, I want it to work its magic.

The food I like to break my fast with is usually rice, some form of protein, and salad. I like to make sure I am eating lots of fruits and drink 1.5L.

SOUL

Detoxing your soul is a personal journey. To me, I like to remove anything that can bring negative energy. For example back bitting, listening to negative music, and basically wasting time. I like to make sure I am creating a connection with my Creator. And I know that not everyone reading this might have the same beliefs as I do, I still believe we are all energy begins and what energy you carry can create an impact. It is important for me to make sure I fill my soul with things that are not only good for me but also for the people around me. Charity, saying kind words, helping some in need, smiling at random people are all things that make you feel better and purify your soul. Prayer is key for me. This is also meditation to others. Allowing time to disconnect from the world and clear your mind as you open your soul to positive energy.
