UPSTATE NY: Secluded sanctuary for solo travelers and home bodies

This summer I’ve been really focusing on discovering local retreats. Last year I traveled around the world which was great but it took a toll on my body. It led me to focus on the places that brought me ultimate peace. One place that came to mind is the Bellfire in Upstate NY.

It was the first time I got to sleep under the stars and crescent moon, watch a shooting star pass by, listen to a gentle thunderstorm, and to be disconnected from the world for a few days.

The great thing about the Bellfire is that the owner’s property isn’t far from the unique stays they have. This brings comfort to most solo travelers knowing that they aren’t completely alone.

I highly suggest for those who want to do a mind, body and soul detox to check out Bellfire.

However for those who can’t escape this summer, here are some ideas to do to create a retreat at home.

FOR THE HOMEBODIES- RETREAT AT HOME

At Karama, I try to make it my best to treat your home like your own retreat.

1) If you have a backyard start decorating it. My favorite way is to add a firepit. There is something so relaxing about watching the fire dancing during a cool summer night.

A great pit to get is the Sunnydaze firepit.

This firepit is pretty good, it gives the best summer bonfire vibes! I highly suggest investing in a firepit. Sunnydaze has so many varieties My favorite is this firepit that includes a BBQ cooking grate!

But if you are looking for something simple and affordable the option below is a great pick! Built from durable steel and finished with a rustic high temperature paint, you can expect years of high quality performance.

2) Try to eat at least one meal outside. Making a small picnic outside. “Studies show that spending even a little bit of time outdoors every day can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Eating outside with friends and family can promote happier conversations and more presence with others.”

3) Decorate your home. Make it look like a retreat, resort, and even a hotel! Roll your towels, add a new summer scent, and add a tray on your bed with your favorite essentials. These little things make your space feel like a new environment.
